Be fashion, be creative, and be free is not just a motto for lookinthemirah but also for my life! I make sure these three things are incorporated into my daily life, somehow and someway. A few months ago, I came across MATTE brand via Instagram. 23-year old Briana Shaneé (@eenahsanairb) is the designer and owner of this LA-based clothing and accessory line and learning of this has given me so much motivation and inspiration towards achieving my personal goals! She is the same age as me and she is continuously doing big things with her self-made career and brand!
From their full-length bodysuits to their leotards, I love how great of a job MATTE does at designing clothing with basic, solid, neutral tones. It is sometimes pretty difficult for us black women to find those perfect neutral colors that won't clash with our skin tones, but MATTE includes models of all different skin tones, displaying how each piece of clothing could possibly work for women of all shades.
I have created a few looks that incorporate a specific MATTE piece and how you can rock it along with some images of how a few celebrities have been seen rocking the MATTE brand.
Pictured above is model/actress Bria Myles rocking the MATTE "T-Shirt Leotard" in grey. For $48, this leotard comes in three other colors — nude, white, and black. Leotards like these are an essential for us to have in our closets because we can easily dress them up or down and they're also very different with a better quality than leotards from fast-fashion retailers. Bria added a bit of sexiness to her outfit by letting her leotard hang off the shoulder with her hair in a high ponytail. All in all, her look is simple with jeans and still very cute!
The first look I came up with gives off the same vibe as Bria's look. I paired the MATTE "T-Shirt Leotard" with high-waisted ripped jeans from TopShop and a pair of sandals from SelfRidges. This is a laid-back, chill outfit but you'll definitely still turn heads and get compliments while walking around the city or enjoying an afternoon brunch.
Miracle Watts, known for her fame on Instagram as well as her eyelash company, The Miracle Lash, is wearing MATTE's "Siren Bodysuit" in nude. This bodysuit and the black cropped "Siren Bodysuit" I included on my look board below each cost $75. Miracle Watts threw on pair of Yeezy's with her bodysuit versus pumps and made it look dope, but I decided to go another route by including a pair of high ankle boots from Ego.
Whenever I get on Instagram I am bound to see at least five different pairs of Ego boots on my timeline. They are extremely unique, on-trend, and always fashionable. By including the boots, I felt it instantly added a bit of sass to the whole look. Since it is summertime, bombers are not necessarily needed during the day but they were a big hit in the spring and a good jacket to have all year long. (Especially this upcoming fall!) MATTE bodysuits are sure to hug and complement every single one of your curves. Again, similar to the leotard and many of the other pieces at MATTE, you just can't go wrong with having this piece as a staple in your wardrobe!
Last but not least, this "Bare Swim" MATTE swimsuit just needs to be mine already! I've had my eye on it for the past month or so and the color is what truly caught my attention! It's is the perfect shade of chocolate and when I saw it on a model whose skin tone is similar to mine I screamed, "Yasss!" Chocolate-colored swimwear just makes our melanin glisten and pop out even more then it already does; I'm in love with it! This swimsuit costs $68 and has been selling fast! I hope I'll be able to grab one before the end of the season. If not, I'm happy to see that MATTE also has other great swimsuits to choose from!
Now that you've been able to get a glimpse of how dope the aesthetic of the MATTE brand is, I strongly suggest you go visit shopmatte.com to see more of what they have to offer and also stay updated with their pop-up events by following them @MATTEbrand.
